See the 2012 WINNERS! | Slideshow
January 28, 2012 sure did arrive quickly. This year the weather really was cooperating with us. The temperatures stayed in the low 70’s all week with blue skies. What a week for a car show.
We received almost 500 car show entries and all but a few showed up. We had record breaking crowds – over 3000, and plenty of porta potties this year. Tubac did a great job of feeding everyone this year with three places to eat and there was no waiting. The lines were long at the bus loading stations but the kids at Sahuarita High School will benefit from these crowds. All our profits go to scholarships and a grad car for a lucky senior that stays all night at the graduation party at the high school.
Friday morning, January 27, a group of great volunteers arrived early to start striping the field and setting up tents for all the workers. All the kinks were worked out with the sound system and there were only a few complaints. . By noon we had all the equipment set up and arranged around the field and went home or back to the hotel room to get ready for our BBQ on Friday evening.
We had a record breaking BBQ also, and the Elks Club rearranged the seating so more people could attend. This worked out great and wasn’t overly crowded. This year we had a 50/50 at the BBQ that one lucky person won that night.
On Saturday morning – the day of the show – cars started arriving at 7:30 and were immediately able to enter the field. There was no frost delay! By 10am the field was full of beautiful cars. People came from all over the country to either look at cars or enter their cars. We even had five guys from Obregon, Sonora Mexico bring up five cars. This is their second year of attending.
There were so many spectators, that all the streets around the resort were full of cars, including the over- flow parking lot that we arranged to be available. We had vans and a school bus for transporting back and forth to the town of Tubac and from the parking lot, but the lines were still long.
Thanks to all our great volunteers for a great show.

Evening BBQ & Cruise
Friday, January 27, 2012
Once again it was time for the Cruz to the annual SCVCNs BBQ and auction. After gathering at the Green Valley Village Mall for some show and chatter, it was time to head to the Elks Club for the BBQ and to link up with the rest of the car nuts and out of town guests. Shown here is a beautiful restored corvette that wended it’s way thru Green Valley to the delight of some sidewalk strollers and a few residents lounging on the front patios.
After arrival and checking in, finding old friends and choosing a table, it was time to peruse the auction items, get a cool beverage of choice and wait for the food lineup to be announced. Before dinner we were treated to guitar and song, and a few facts about the show poster and it’s artist.
It didn’t take long before the lineup for the meal was announced. And likewise it didn’t take long for everyone to get their food and settle in for a good meal and cross table conversation. From the looks of the plates on the bus boy cart, it looks like everyone enjoyed their meal.
As soon as the meal was finished and beverages were replenished, it was time for the guest auctioneer to begin his speal in a language only known to them-resulting in persons of intelligence to pay money for things they don’t need. It worked well again, much to the benefit of the club and a good cause. At least everyone had fun doing it, and I’m sure that glass collection will be back next year, and I’m more than sure we can expect to see the happy couple who won that nice 50/50 raffle money.
Sooner than one expected it was all over, as everyone drifted off to home or hotel. Well fed, well entertained, many with that special purchase, all looking forward to the morning, anxious to get up the next morning and get the show all lined up for the spectators.
See ya all next year.
