Santa Cruz Valley Car Show - Tubac Golf Resort

16th AnnualTubac Car Show - A Showering Success

January 23, 2010

The 2010 Car Show was really a plan as you go show. We arrived on Thursday afternoon at Tubac Golf Resort for our annual three day stay. The rain had been pouring for most of the week and we didn’t know what the field would look like. As we expected, the field was really wet. We kept hoping all the way till about noon on Friday that the event would take place. Finally after meeting with the Resort and car show committee we all decided that the best place for the show was in the parking lot at the resort. The field was floating with water in most areas.

This is where the plan-as-you-go show started happening. All the tents etc for the show were brought to the parking lot in the trailer and we managed the put up tent frames before the rain started again. That is when we abandoned the Friday setup and went home to prepare for our great BBQ. We had a lot of no shows, but had a great time. It was still raining!!.

Saturday morning Duane and I got up and let the dog out and, surprise, there were stars out. Workers started showing up around 7:30 and they began to put everything together that was supposed to be done on Friday. We got it all done. Cars started arriving around 8am. Since we didn’t have to wait for the field to clear of frost, the cars came directly into the parking lot and found their favorite spot. This worked out great because we didn’t have a line of cars waiting in the cold.

The cars were parked in the slots marked in the lot and then parked between rows. We managed to get about 260 cars parked in the lot. These cars deserve a lot of thanks for showing up in iffy conditions and all the winners deserved their trophies. We had a lot of new winners this year.

The Tubac Golf Resort served great car show specials in their restaurant. Duane and I took a break and ate in the restaurant since we never had time for breakfast.

It seems like every year we get lucky with the weather clearing up for the show. We got lucky again this year in a different way, but still lucky. I hope our luck never changes. All of our great workers rose up to the occasion.

See the 2010 WINNERS!

Friday Night Barbeque

This year’s BBQ almost didn’t happen, but we all pulled through and had a great time. The weather was ok when we went in to the BBQ, but we came out to pouring down rain.

This is our most popular event for the car show and it fills up fast. This year we reached the maximum number of attendees by the middle of December. Because of the rain we had a lot of no-shows, but the room was still filled up. The food was great and the entertainment was funny as usual.

Our resident auctioneer, Jerry Cover, always has a lot of fun auctioning off items. This year we had two water color prints from our own artist and car nut, Roberta Rogers. We also auctioned off posters numbered 1-10. The club decided to add items to be auctioned off and they brought in quite a bit of money.

After an evening of good food and conversation, everyone left in the rain, hoping that the weather would be better the next morning.
